Hive Therapy House
What is hive therapy?
Also known as apitherapy, hive therapy uses beehives and bee products to create an environment for deep relaxation, helping to promote respiratory, cardiovascular, and immune healing. In the United States, we are among the first to offer this unique therapy.
Hive therapy began in ancient Egypt. Today, it is prescribed by doctors in Europe for a variety of ailments, including stress, fatigue, insomnia, asthma, and bronchitis.
How does it work?
When you arrive at Bowterra Farm, you will find the hive therapy house nestled in our permaculture orchard. Inside the house is a comfortable bench laid on top of bee hives.
A mesh covering between the hives and the bench ensures your safety. As bees make honey in the hive, they fan their wings and flex their thoracic muscles. These motions create micro vibrations, provides a gentle massage for the person lying above.
The massage and the sweet aromas of nectar, honey and propolis induce a state of deep mental and physical relaxation, balancing the nervous system and activating your own self healing abilities.
Beehive air is clean and highly-ionized, which has been shown to benefit the respiratory system for conditions like asthma and bronchitis and reduce harmful free radicals.
The house includes a bed and space to meditate, do yoga, or simply sit and relax. While you are here, you’ll have access to the entire farm, including a bathroom and shower.
We encourage our visitors to explore the property, meet our furry friends, and learn more about permaculture.
